Royal Military Academy gala outfit, Social and Military Sciences Faculty, 2023

The Royal Military Academy trains candidate officer for all military forces, and preserves dress traditions linking the students to previous generations. Female candidates were admitted in 1978, when the first mixed promotion was constituted.
Since the school’s creation in 1834 royal blue and black have been the colours of the engineering corps. The headdress has always been a shako topped with a cock feather plume, inspired by the casoar of French military academies (see photo left).
The letter omega symbolises the Social and Military Sciences faculty.
In detail: sleeve, buttons, golden lion on headdress and omega symbol.
