Ridder in dienst van de stad Gent, begin 15e eeuw

Men engaged in foot combat wore a sallet with movable visor and bevor, a type of helmet popular in the 14th and early 15th centuries (see photo left). The knight was armed with a two-hand sword.
The knight holds a two-hand sword and also carries a small purse. His legs, which are only protected at the front, suggest that he was mainly fighting on foot and not on horseback.
